When was the track built?
Breakers Speedway was a complex with a drag strip and a short 2km circuit used only for local races or open-days.
The drag strip is rarely still used for some events, but with the announcement of the Caribbean F1 Series, Cayman was in the list of countries with a calendar spot. Investments have been found to transform it into a proper permanent track, able to host Formula One.
The circuit, designed by me with the highest environmental standards, it will be ready for the first season in 2023.
When was its first Grand Prix?
The new circuit will be ready for the new F1 in 2023 and will host the first ever GP in the country.
What’s the circuit like?
Its unique shape is given by the natural environment and the idea of affecting as low as possible the forest.
The main straight is the former drag strip, followed by three sharp turns leading into the woodland, characterized by two tight chicanes.
The lake section is the fastest and brings cars to the downhill straight bit and T14 that drives under the main straight and main stands; heavily banked T15 and T16 complete the approach to the final corner.
It is a technical circuit, where overtaking could be challenging.
Temperature and humidity will normally by on the high side, with rain showers possible at nay time coming from the Ocean.
Where is it located?
In Breakers, at Betty Bay Pond, between Moon Bay and White San Bay, around 20km east of George Town on the Grand Cayman Island. (+ 19°18’02”, – 81°11’33”)
