The Dracon Racetrack – Kaloyanovo

Circuit: Existing
Layout: Fictitious (designed by me) – © 2021 AllAlongTheRacetrack

When was the track built?

Built in 2005 on a former airfield as a 2km circuit with also a drag strip available, it has been used mainly for minor local events.
Thanks to a complete refurbishments that use parts of the original layout, and an extension with the new design, done by me, it will obtain the FIA Grade-1 status to be able to host International events from 2023, despite the challenges of fitting it into a small lot of land.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will be the first ever race in this country.
It will rotate with Slovenia for the 26th spot in the F1 European Series calendar.

What’s the circuit like?

The new design is faithful to the original concept, twisty, with many slow corners that can be approached with different lines.
Great traction and good acceleration at low gears will be crucial to succeed around here.
There are 3 short straights in the completely new extension that will see some overtaking opportunities and make this track more complete.

Where is it located?

Around 25km north of Plovdiv, in the south of Bulgaria, and 40km from its International airport. (+ 42°20’28”, + 24°44’04”)
