When was the track built?

The construction of the circuit was announced in 2008, when Hungarian authorities and DORNA reached an agreement to host MotoGP.
Some works were done with the tarmac base being laid down, but ,due to the financial crisis that hit the country, they were never completed, and the project stalled.
Thanks to the new F1 organization, it will have new life and will be completed to host both major motorsport categories.

When was its first Grand Prix?

It will be the first ever race on this circuit and it will rotate with other two for the national spot in the F1 European Series calendar.

What’s the circuit like?

Being designed mainly with MotoGP in mind, it has two fast sectors with mainly long-radius sweeping corners and a central one slightly slower, with tighter chicanes in sequence, where it will be quite challenging to keep an ideal line with F1 cars.
It also offers, though, hard braking zones and long straights that are suitable for wheel-to-wheel action.
The quick change of direction after the wide Turn 1 will surely give opportunities for duels from the start.

Where is it located?

Close to Europe’s biggest lake Balaton and around 200km south of the capital Budapest. (+ 46°34’23”, + 17°16’15”)
