When was the track built?
Named the ‘Monte Carlo of South America’, as often happens to seaside street circuits, it has hosted racing since the 1980s, in various parts of the city and different layouts, including Formula 3 and, more recently, Formula E.
Since 2018 there has been no events held on the roads of the city but, as one of the most famous venues of the country, it has been included in the Database, with an extended 4.2km new layout, designed by me.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first ever Formula 1 GP in this venue.
It is one of the three Uruguayan circuits in the database that will rotate for the second spot in the Continental Series.
What’s the circuit like?
Despite its name, it has very little in common with the circuit on the French Riviera; it sits between two beautiful white-sandy beaches, it is quite fast, with several overtaking spots and not many 90° corners.
Streets are generally wide and cars will opt for low-downforce set-ups, which are all ingredients for entertaining races.
Where is it located?
In Punta del Este, on the Uruguayan coast, around 130km East of Montevideo and its International airport, well connected via road. (- 34°57’21”, – 54°56’13”)
