Layout: Actual
When was the track built?
Built just after the Österrichring, it benefits from the beautiful surroundings, with hillsides forming natural grandstands giving top-down view on racing action, but also being constrained by them in terms of layout.
It has been used mainly for motorcycle racing in the last years but, thanks to an agreed refurbishment of the pit building and to the new F1 organization, it will become part of the Formula One database.
When was its first Grand Prix?
It will be the first race ever on this circuit.
It will rotate with the Red Bull Ring for the Austrian spot in the F1 European Series calendar.
What’s the circuit like?
The layout is very simple, and it looks like a long snake of fast and long radius corners, with only the first new chicane as true hard braking zone made for overtaking.
As in Zandvoort, finding the right flow here is critical to set up quick lap times constantly and to avoid costly mistakes.
Where is it located? Around 10 km east of Salzburg, in northern Austria; it is served by the city airport. (+ 47°49’20”, + 13°09’53”)
